So unfortunately this is the only veg-friendly foods I could find at the grocery store in my hometown… besides fruits and veggies of course! Looks like I have to make a Costco trip! Ugh I can’t believe they didn’t have soy yogurt or cheese.

this is basically my local store in town… but i can find a few other things there. not much though

wtfdoyoueatvegan:

Wednesday- bob’s red mill gluten free bread mix made with soymilk and flax seed. didn’t rise quite as much as i’d have liked, but it was also my first time. It’s pretty tasty though and I can finally eat sandwiches again.

they have gluten free bread in the freezer section of one of our close by stores… its so expensive though, i never thought of buying it. I am planning on making completely  homemade vegan gluten free bread, when i do come up with a recipe I will send it too you :)
btw, I’m in no way gluten free, just experimenting :)

I’m sure many of you have had a disapproving meat eater lecture you about how bad soy is for you. Somewhat ironic that much of the meat eaten world-wide is raised on soya grain. 98% of all soy grown in America, for instance, is fed to livestock rather than people directly, making American meat eaters the driving market of soy production in that country. Whoopsies!
So what is soy? Soybeans are the most widely used, least expensive, and least caloric way to get large amounts of protein with very little fat and no cholesterol. You can eat soybeans in many forms, including tofu, the beans themselves (also known as edamame), soy milk, miso, and soy powder.
Here is the breakdown on soy. (I’m going to get all sciency on your ass) Soy has phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens are phytochemicals, or natural chemicals found in plants. These phytoestrogens work with and in the body similar to the hormone estrogen. Isoflavones are a type or group of phytoestrogens which are thought to be positive. Again, this group of isoflavones is thought to aid in preventing cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis and menopausal symptoms.
Some people are worried that eating soy can cause breast cancer, because they believe that phytoestrogens have the same effect as estrogens, and can thus increase breast cancer in estrogen-positive breast cancers. ➡ But wait! The average woman living in East Asia eats about 10 times the quantity of soy foods as the average woman in the United States. Yet East Asian women have lower rates of hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer than women in the United States.
But there is some research that eating too much soy could negatively impact a woman’s fertility, and we should probably be careful not to overload infants with too much soy in their formula.
However, the research is inconclusive, so to be on the safe side, don’t mainline soy. Enjoy your soy products, just don’t overload on them. #vegansofig

because of the negative reactions to soy in our diet, this has been reblogged. I think people need an eye opener.

sugar free marshmallows.

Because of reducing sugar, this is a great recipe.

I’m planning on doing something similar to this: http://www.ehow.com/how_4735818_sugar-marshmallows-home-recipe.html

just with agar instead of gelatin… would that be pretty much my own recipe since i am changing some of it?

I am still looking to see if thats the only option though.

shopping list?

I’m changing my diet a little by reducing my cane sugar and corn syrup from my diet.

Maple syrup i barely eat, I have a bottle in my fridge not even half gone, so i see no need to reduce this.

what is staying is my use of agave (low glycemic index, great for people with diabetes) molasses, and natural sugars found in fruits and veggies.

so my list so far is:

flour- I’m making my own breads from now on, so I’m buying all purpose unbleached flour and I’m experimenting with gluten free flours too, starting with teff flour, and try to see if i can make a gluten free bread… who knows, i may love it more than bread filled with gluten.

rice- this will probably be white, its cheaper and still fills me up. I know its not as healthy as brown rice, but i’m not perfect.

Vital wheat gluten- this is a maybe right now… i have a bit of vital wheat gluten right now. I just don’t want to run out when making seitan (and saving tons when doing so)

almond milk and juice

tofu

agave

spices- ours are old and i want new ones.

beans- i really like making burger patties with these. also there great in soups.

and fresh\frozen veggies and fruits.

what else should i get? please, try to list things with little added sugars.

vegan-fairy:

Please guysss, what’s some brands of granola without honey?

I forget the name of the kind i just bought, but i know that Cascadian farms has a few vegan granola. a couple of them have honey, but there french vanilla doesnt (to sweet for me though) and there mixed fruit granola doesnt (which the mixed fruit is my favorite)

sugars

I’m going to start reducing my cane sugar and corn syrup from my diet on the 4th of next month if i am lucky… I cant till then because we have little in the house.

I’m mainly sticking with natural sweets like agave, maple syrup (pure), and fruits and veggies. I will sometimes use sugar, but not often.
