lovlyveggiefoods

My name is Cassie. I'm 18 and A very lovable vegan. This blog is about everything and anything vegan, but mainly food. I'm not such a new vegan anymore, so I am a bit more experienced than I used to be, but I am not an expert and do make mistakes! At some point in my life I'm going to make as many things from scratch as i can. I'm cutting out palm oil from my diet, because it is an unnecessary ingredient that causes deforestation and takes orangutans habitats away, making me see it as an evil non-vegan product. I just found out about this production of this product, so I'm finishing up my vegan butter's (which contain palm oil) and then following a recipe to make a replacement.
What got me to go vegan? Well I have a number of reasons. So we will start from the beginning. I was a vegetarian for a year and a half before this happened. I started noticing that I was having chronic stomach pains and went through a trial and error process with certain foods that I ate daily. first thing i went 3 days without was bread or anything containing gluten. then I tried without soy. still felt the same. So then I went to dairy... OMG I made some progress, I felt a little better, but i still had a little more pain, so i tried no eggs, and had the same amount of pain as when didn't have any dairy. then i tried no eggs and no dairy... and the pain just disappeared. So due to my findings, I ended up forcing myself to watch earthlings (i still have not finished the last half hour, i'm a wimp i know) and bawled my eyes out, so I knew then i was going to be changing more than just my diet, but slowly grew into it. Then, I watched forks over knives. much better than earthlings, especially since it gave me a nutritional look of how to do this right. So my reasons are: Dairy and eggs = unbearable chronic stomach pain dairy = veal and rape eggs = chicken periods (gross) and all eggs go through the same cruel industry whether caged, free-range, or organic Meat, eggs, and dairy = environmental destruction and this one was with me when i was a vegetarian: MEAT IS MURDER!
I hope you like my blog, I'm hear to help anyone transitioning or just looking for vegan items. :) Have a good day.

things i want in the near future.

as in probably by summer or end of the year.

1) Ninja kitchen system. (this is top on the list)

- I want this for a couple reasons. one, i only have a little personal size blender that i don’t tend to use often, and if i had this, i have a present for my little sister, because i wont need the little blender anymore. 2, it can do things most kitchen appliances can’t, in one. I could make my own vegan ice cream, chop vegetables and fruits up evenly, blend up frozen smoothies, have juices with all the nutrients and fiber, and even make pizza and cookie doughs. 3, it has 1100 watts of power and a 2 year warranty. 4, I feel better about the price because of what it can do, and its less than a vitamix which makes me happy.

2) Dehydrator.

- I could make my own dehydrated fruits and veggies, which would be raw and healthy, so i have some when i run out of things to eat sometimes. I can make my own vegan jerky, for less than the primal jerky i love so much. (even though its not a ton of money to buy a couple, after awhile the price can add up) and lastly, i can dehydrate seeds from food i produce, making some of next seasons crop free, and free is better.

3) yogurt maker.

- Has anyone noticed how expensive soy, almond, coconut milk yogurts are? I think its unnecessary.  so, it would be alot cheaper to make my own, and they sell one on amazon, that has automatic shut off, and only cost roughly $35 and qualifies for super saver shipping (making shipping free) and i love that.

4) produce freshies.

- I’m the only vegan in my house and this product claims to keep your veggies fresh for 2 times longer than normal, or more. which would be a lifesaver for me.

5) aerogarden(s)

- uhm, i could have herbs in winter without paying a fortune. i could have tomatoes and peppers without paying a fortune. i could have lettuce that is better for me. :) get my point? good.

6) vegan cookbooks.

-I want many. I usually try to buy them myself, but i always ask for some for Christmas.(my family celebrates it as a family get together, I am not religious)

7) digital camera.

-this is on my christmas list. I know Its a long shot, but if i can get this, it will be one of few things on my christmas list. Also, with a digital camera i could take better pictures of things.

so far this is all i want for now. but I’m sure i will think of a few things.

It sounds like alot, but 4 things, i’m planning on getting with my own money sometime in summer. and the aerogarden isn’t a huge necessity. and most of what i want can help me with making vegan products. :)

so, gardening?

So, I’ve always wanted to have a garden, however i live in an apartment (soon to be trailer) with my mom, and our land lord won’t let us dig into the ground to make a garden. I know it would be financially in our budget to grow our own vegetables and i could save my money for other stuff. Do you guys think that I could garden in large metal, plastic, or ceramic pails with gardening soil? I mean, I would be buying whatever best fit my budget for the pails\buckets. so probably the plastic or metal ones. just want a opinion. all answers are welcome.

my bf <3

so, even though he has almost no relevance to my blog, you people seem to hear a bit about him. Well, he is moving in this week :) which is making me happy.

Also, He’s not going vegan right away due to the fact that were living under my mom’s roof, which means until i get a better job, and he gets a job, its not financially in our budget to feed 2 vegans and 2 omnivores, especially since i buy a bit of my own food and struggle with that, however when i do make meals he said he would eat the way i do.

anyway just thought I would share my happyness with everyone:)

a few things.

Okay i was busy yesterday. I cleaned some, went to Aldi (i will post a picture of some of what we got today, eventually) I got into an argument with my stepmom because she tried telling me that no matter what i do all products are going to be tested on animals for a safety check … blah blah blah. and that she knew she was right cuz she works in a lab for pharmaceutical drugs. And i got so mad that i just ignored her for hours. she also tried saying all manufactures test on animals, when they don’t… it was ridiculous. anyway, she claims animal testing means there “washing” the animal, I told her that they actually make the animals either ingest the product(s) or they use it in cosmetics and for perscription drugs in labs where there forced to live there short lives in misery (she still said i was wrong but idc, she can believe what she wants too.) the main thing that got me so mad i think was that she would rather have them test the product on other animals than humans. Its our bodies, if we want the product they can test it on the people its for!

anyway, I did the math and by in 2 weeks I will have about 300 dollars (or more) saved up on my card and i can do what ever i want with. so I’m shopping online on 2 stores.  heres my list:

veganstore.com

-daiya cheese shreds, 5 pound bag (other one only has the cheddar 5 pound block)

veganessentials.com

-vegan parmesan (galaxy foods) (2)

-tofutti sour cream (2) (wont be on here if i find out how to make it before 2 weeks)

-Massel “beef” broth

-Massel “chicken” broth

-Nutribiotic shampoo

-Nutribiotic conditioner

-kiss my face olive oil soap

-kiss my face moisture shave

-personna mystique razor for women (if they have it by then, its on backorder…)

-personna mystique replacement blades (if they have the razor)

-merry hempsters lip balm

so as you can see its going to be a big order… :) and i am excited.

p.s. sorry about the rant up on the top, had to get it out.

my old stuff.

so, I’m cleaning my room, and I’ve been finding alot of my old material items, and clothes, that have leather and so on so forth, so Instead of being wasteful, I’m going to be selling the items online :) and maybe make some money from it to help me with getting more things to support my lifestyle :)

I wouldn’t have found this stuff if it wasn’t for the fact that i am planning on getting a cat soon,  and my room has to be clean and organized before that will happen. just thought i would tell people that I’m taking another step to the lifestyle of veganism.

i think i am doing a good job.

yay!!!

so my mom basically agreed that we could have our shopping day on wednesday so we can shop at Aldi a lot (we might not be able to this wednesday) because aldi products are affordable and not to bad quality. And because were poor it fits my mom’s budget perfect. all we need is our own bags (got them) and a quarter for the cart. :) and were good. this also means i might actually be able to save my money for other things now, so what you may see on  here in the next 2 months, is me having more recipes(possibly) and probably more expensive items…  if i get to do this, then I’m probably going to start buying vegan cheese, I’ll stick with my spectrum mayo though…  (probably gonna start making my own) and I am thinking about getting an areogarden sometime in the next 4 to 5 months. oh the possibilities i will have. (yes i still plan on getting some convience items like boca, lightlife, tofutti, tofurkey, and so delicious, but probably not often, because I have to go to a supermarket for them and i don’t want to break my budget every week.)

they have everything from canned tomatoes, to pasta, to frozen veggies, to produce. they even have soy milk. Did i forget to mention that they have huge bags of nuts for like 2 to 3 dollars? even though not raw, I could still make nut milks for little money! I’m quite excited.

argument won :)

so me and my boyfriend have been arguing about when we have kids and feeding them a vegan diet. He claimed that it wouldn’t be fair to the child and i explained how its not fair to the animal to have his\her life taken away, and that we would be sharing a compassionate and healthy lifestyle. I also explained if our child wanted to eat a non vegan lifestyle in our house, they would be buying the products and learning how to cook it themselves, because i am not doing it. and I won. we will be having a vegan child when were ready to have kids.

free food, practically

So, My mom (this is probably the most surprising thing anyone will ever hear, cuz my mom supports but doesn’t fully support me being vegan) introduced me to someone she knows that is eating a vegan diet. She is about my mom’s age and has been eating this way for 3 months, and has been really helpful. Today, she brought me stuff from NYC and stuff in her appartment here she doesn’t want getting ruined. So, I now have: Sweet potato noodles (they work like rice noodles), rice paper, roasted seaweed sheets and small packages of the stuff that are great for snacks (I tried them, I really liked them), green tea, raw almonds, almond flour, and roasted salt free almond butter, tvp vegan beef and chicken strips (I’m not sure what to think of this). I think she gave me more, but I forget. anyway… I’m excited about this.

Lisa is not a full vegan, she is just doing this for health reasons, but she is still helping with her choice.

I’m still transitioning into the vegan lifestyle.

today

i have no time to do anything, so I’m making my only post of the day now due to me becoming busy right after this. I’m studying for my permit. Yes, that means i am going to be driving soon (i say that cuz i’m not going to fail this. it has my absolute attention.) and I have to cook my mushroom and leek soup again due to my mom making me. she really likes it. plus its the only thing she has liked\tried of mine since i became a vegan. :) so, I have slightly succeeded. oh did i mention that someone is buying a quart of my soup from me today aswell? She’s been on a vegan diet for 2 weeks less than i have been a vegan, (i’m trying to get into the lifestyle) and according to my mom, she has been having a little bit of a hard time with the diet. so, I’m going to help her out some. :) oh and yesterday I had frozen veggies over noodles with a vegan cream sauce i made from almond milk… I still need to work on the cream sauce, so until i get it perfect, its not being put on here. especially since people would be disappointed in it if they tried it.

well, I will see if i can write more tomorrow. maybe post a different recipe. I might make some kind of sweets today or tomorrow. depending on if i pass as a celebration.

I think… I just had a heart attack

So, me and my bf have been dating for almost 4 months, it will be 4 months on the second. we started dating the day after I started transitioning to a vegan. First, I finally get him to say he is going to go vegan for me :) yay. now, one of our biggest issues, His step-mom, is thinking about letting him stay the night for new years :)

I’m excited.

anyway, He is a sweetheart and respects me and my choice. All of my other bf’s didn’t even like me being vegetarian, and he doesn’t mind my veganism. that was a good hint that he was a good person to date right there.

now, I’m not going to lie, he isn’t even a vegetarian, but whenever he is here he mainly eats my food. there was one time where he ate meat here just cuz i didnt have much and my mom brought home food. So me and him are planning on cutting out the products little by little when he moves in. I’m going to make a chart for him. so every week were taking something out, until it gets to him being a vegan.

but still so so excited for him maybe being able to stay the night. (he is 18, but his step mom said about 3 weeks ago he can’t stay the night and live there too. he doesnt have a job though and my family is in a bit of a financial crisis right now and cant afford to have him here right now.)

I know this turned into something that might not make sense… blame excitedness…
